Ballina Region for Refugees (BR4R) is running its second open poetry competition. We’re looking for a Southern Cross University student intern who can assist with publicity and promotion of the competition and help develop a promotional plan, to be used in future years.
Working on this project you will make a difference in Key Impact Area: Migrants Refugees and Asylum Seekers; Sustainable Development Goal: Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).
Time required: 5 hours per week

BR4R is an incorporated organisation. We are part of an umbrella national group of Rural Australians for Refugees. BR4R is a volunteer managed organisation.
The vision of BR4R is to welcome, respect and support refugees and people seeking asylum and our goal is to promote the acceptance and integration of refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia by thinking globally and acting locally.
The poetry competition is an activity of BR4R. The competition aims to provoke broader community thought and consideration about the plight of those seeking asylum in Australia as well as about those who have been granted temporary visas as refugees.

The competition is one of a number of activities of BR4R. All of our work aims to highlight the ways in which decisions of the Australian Government affect those seeking refuge and asylum here emotionally, psychologically and physically.
• The student would gain experience and skill development through publicity and promotion of a competition with a social cause.
• A useful addition to their CV with a written reference based on the student's performance
• Insight into how a charity runs and how a nationwide competition is run.
