Intensive agriculture along the Richmond River has resulted in issues facing the river's water quality, soil nutrient deficiency & erosion. To combat that we will provide riparian rehab via bush regen, weed control & re-establishing native vegetation. Woukd suit students studying ENV00224 and SCI00111.

Overview

Aims

Improving river water quality by stabilising riparian zones and preventing erosion with bush regeneration and weed control to re-establishing the local area's native vegetation.

Outcomes

Help CVA clear existing weeds, preparing site for planting, plant native tubestock and follow up maintenance.

Needs to be addressed

Poor river water quality, instability of riparian zones, soil nutrient deficiency and increased erosion.

Benefits to students

Practical NRM skills, plant ID, weed control experience, industry networking. On site training provided.

Requirements

Southern Cross University

Promotion and volunteers/students. Required clothing: Long sleeves and pants, broad brimmed hat, work boots.
