Develop your leadership and mentoring skills with AIME. AIME are looking for student mentors for Indigenous High School kids during AIME Program Days at Southern Cross University. There is also the opportunity for mentors to support Tutor Squads at the schools we work with. Suits students enrolled in COM30001, HLT10595, and SOY10105.
Time required: 4 hours per week
Duration: 26 weeks

• To support Indigenous High School students to complete high school and have successful post-school transition into further employment or training.
• To give University students the opportunity to Mentor Indigenous high school kids on a university campus.
• For University students to connect with local young people.
• Strengthen relationships between University students and Indigenous high school students
• University students connect with local community organisations and Aboriginal people.
• University students will develop skills including; group facilitation, event management, communication, youth work, education support.
• University students can create networks with potential employers; eg Education students can connect with local Teachers/Principals.
• Indigenous high school students completing high school on par with other students with successful post-school transitions
Indigenous rates of year 12 completion are about 40% nationally, AIME mentees finish year 12 at rates of between 72-75% (equal to and higher than non Indigenous students). Rates of transition, post school, to education/training/employment for Indigenous students are around 30% nationally and close to 100% for AIME mentees.
Mentoring with AIME provides a professional and personal development opportunity whilst having a positive impact to a young person's life and you'll have heaps of fun!
